'For Mário Laginha, this is not a solo debut — he had already ventured into the distant solitary endeavour of Canções e Fugas in 2006. With an intense activity across various formations, from his trios, to duos with Camané, Tcheka, Pedro Burmester and (more sporadically now) Maria João, as well as composing for symphonic works and various orchestrations, Laginha kept postponing a return to this type of studio recording. Fortunately, he did so, because Retorno, to be released this Thursday [February 5th], is a remarkable album, with a musical universe sufficiently distant from Canções e Fugas to fully justify its existence.'
